March Editor's Letter

Last week I tabled for 70 Faces in Towers with one of our lovely editors, trying to lure any poor, unsuspecting souls with the promise of free candy and happiness. It certainly wasn’t an easy two hours. We were met with the polarization one often encounters when tabling: enthusiasm or please-just-get-out-of-my-face. If we were lucky, people’s faces would light up with excitement. More frequent, however, was the reception of a blank, horrified stare as we revealed our true motives: Art! Writing! Magazine! Join us and follow us on #instagram! Please take our flyer!!!!

In all honesty, I can’t blame them for this attitude. I have certainly been that student, politely avoiding eye contact with the group simply trying to spread the word of something important to them. The distribution of interests and ideas at a university is paradoxical in that students are always looking for more ways to get involved and yet, in one of the simplest ways we can learn about a club, event, or organization, we often walk away instead of giving them a chance.

The March publication of 70 Faces is dedicated to this idea of giving others a chance, of opening up to the possibility of teaching our fellow students about the amazing opportunities, events, and discussions happening all around campus. For us here at 70 Faces, we took this month as an opportunity to get to know more about the other amazing student organizations at the Hillel JUC.

If last month was about embracing unpredictability, March is about creating something out of that unpredictability. It’s time to dust off those winter blues and find that inspiration you’ve been looking for.

And remember - always take the flyer.
